Microsoft Reportedly In Talks to Buy TikTok

Multiple reports today suggesting the Microsoft may buy TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company, ByteDance. Recent reports suggest that President Trump may order ByteDance to sell it's US operations.

The company has come under public scrutiny recently for privacy concerns as videos on the web show the app copying iOS users clipboards. Critics have pointed out that the Chinese company could be required to provide captured user data to the Chinese government according to Chinese laws.

The company has been under a national security review by the Comittee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and is expected to make a recommendation to the president in a matter of days.

Microsoft has declined to comment on the matter.  A spokesperson for TikTok declined to comment and added the statement, "we are confident in the long-term success of TikTok. Hundreds of millions of people come to TikTok for entertainment and connection, including our community of creators and artists who are building livelihoods from the platform. We’re motivated by their passion and creativity, and committed to protecting their privacy and safety as we continue working to bring joy to families and meaningful careers to those who create on our platform."
